Orlando, FL, April 25, 2023 – Flight Data Systems (FDS), a leading provider of flight data solutions and services to business, military, commercial, and rotorcraft segments of aviation, today announced the completion of an Approved Model List (AML) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the TSO’d SENTRY Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) with Recorder Independent Power Supply (RIPS), SENTRY Cockpit Controller, and SENTRY Cockpit Area Microphone (CAM) by Canada West Avionics. The SENTRY and the AML STC will support adoption for the upcoming Canadian CVR mandate on a wide variety of popular airframes.

“We are excited to share that we have gained an AML STC for Flight Data Systems’ SENTRY CVR with RIPS for Part 23 aircraft,” said Gordon Bott, President of Canada West Avionics. “The AML STC, SA23-10, includes popular models from Textron’s Beechcraft and Cessna, Dornier, Ontic Engineering, Mitsubishi, and M7 Aerospace. We are also working on additional AML STCs for Part 25 and Part 29 airframes that will be scheduled for completion later this year.”

The Part 23 AML STC includes popular aircraft models including: Beechcraft 300, 1900, 1900C, 1900D, 300LW, B200CGT, B200GT, B300, B300C, Cessna 525, 525A, 525B, 525C, as well as Mitsubishi MU-2-35, MU-2-40, and MU-2-60, among others.

The certified SENTRY is the smallest, lightest, and lowest power consumption ED-112A recorder available in the market today. In addition to its two-hour, four-track datalink message recording capability, rotor speed inputs, and 10-minute Recorder Independent Power Supply (RIPS) module, the SENTRY holds Technical Standard Order (TSO) certifications including TSO-C123a, TSO-C177a, TSO-C155b, and TSO-C121b.

“We are thrilled to see the completion of the Part 23 AML STC for the SENTRY CVR with RIPS,“ said Shane LaPlante, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Flight Data Systems. “We believe the SENTRY is the best choice for operators looking for reliable, functional, and easy-to-install solutions for their fleets and will help Canadian operators comply with the upcoming mandate.”

The SENTRY’s small form factor meets SWaP requirements and certification standards for advanced air mobility (AAM), Part 23, 25, 27, and 29 category platforms. The solution allows for easy installation onto existing CVR structural mountings without modifications.

Canada West Avionics has also achieved TCCA CAR 561 Manufacturing Approval for their in-house designed CVR adapter tray and associated bracketry for seamless installations of the SENTRY CVR.
